What is DELE?

The Certification of Spanish as a Foreign Language (Diplomas de Español como Lengua Extranjera, or DELE) is the official certification that accredits the degree of fluency and proficiency of the Spanish Language, issued and recognized by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport of Spain and valid in Spain, Latin America and abroad. Since 2002, the Instituto Cervantes is the institution responsible of organizing all the exams while the University of Salamanca undertakes the process of production, development and grading of the examinations.

The qualification is officially issued on successful completion of a particular level (there are 6 levels, with A1 being the lowest and C2 the highest), as conforming with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages of the Council of Europe. All examinations cover the most important abilities in language acquisition: speaking, reading, written composition, analysis of structures of communication and listening.

Who can attend DELE?

DELE examination is open to all wishing to validate their skills in Spanish, prior to taking part in an exchange program, or willing to enrol in any higher education program of Spanish Universities. It is also very useful for those foreigners keen on working in Spanish or Latin American companies, or for those who want to improve their employability by adding to their CVs an official language certification. Once taken, its validity never expires.
